IU's Gordon wins weekly with Big Ten award
Indiana's Eric Gordon set two school records last week and he's only getting started.
The freshman guard was named the Big Ten's co-player of the week Monday, sharing the honor with Michigan State sophomore Raymar Morgan.
Eric Gordon scored 33 points against Chattanooga last week, breaking George McGinnis' school record for most points in a debut game (26 in 1970). He also made 7-of-11 3-pointers in the game and 8-of-10 free throws, while connecting on nine of his final 13 shots from the field.
His encore Sunday was a 21-point, three-assist performance in a blowout of Longwood.
With 54 points in his first two games, Eric Gordon passed McGinnis again by producing the most points in his first two games of any Hoosiers player. McGinnis scored 52 in his first two games.
Eric Gordon, who was the state's leading scorer last season in winning the high school Mr. Basketball award at Indianapolis North Central, finished the week making 17-of-29 shots, 12-of-19 from 3-point range and averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
Morgan scored 38 points, had 29 rebounds and two double-doubles in Michigan State's two wins this week. It's the first time Morgan has won the award.
