Gordon scores 26 as Indiana destroys Western Carolina
Eric Gordon scored 26 points, and made 6- of-11 shots from beyond the arc, to lead Indiana to a dominant 100-52 win over Western Carolina at Assembly Hall.
D.J. White posted 21 points and 11 rebounds for Indiana (9-1), which won its fifth in a row. Jordan Crawford scored 19, and Jamarcus Ellis had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Hoosiers in the teams' first ever meeting.
Michael Porrini led the way with 20 points for Western Carolina, which has lost four of five. Arnold Gore scored 16 for the Catamounts (3-6), but no one else had more than six points.
"It certainly wasn't a lot of fun to sit through that. Eric Gordon, I think he is a terrific basketball player, and was really a tough match-up for us," Western Carolina head coach Larry Hunter said. "He had a great first half and got them off to a good start, and they have a lot of weapons."
It was a case of total domination for Indiana, which scored 100 points for the second time this season. The Hoosiers opened the game on a 12-4 run, capped by a Eric Gordon three.
Indiana stretched its lead to 16 shortly thereafter, but Western Carolina was able to get within striking distance with 7:36 left in the first half. Gore connected on a three to bring the Catamounts within 28-18.
But the Hoosiers went on an 11-0 run right after that, finishing on a Crawford jumper with 3:54 left, to give Indiana a 39-18 lead. The Hoosiers stretched the advantage some before halftime, when they held a 52-24 lead.
Indiana then opened the second half on a 17-4 run, which White finished with a flourish, dunking the ball to give the Hoosiers a 69-28 lead just over five minutes into the second half.
"D.J. has really set a high standard for himself, being consistent," Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson said. "He has been really consistent coming out every night."
The torrid pace continued, as the Hoosiers led by 51 with 6:53 left, when DeAndre Thomas hit a jumper for a 92-41 lead. Indiana cruised from there.
