Livingston works out for Blazers
The Trail Blazers are considering signing former Los Angeles Clippers point guard Shaun Livingston after top members of the Blazers front office viewed an hour workout with the 23-year-old point guard in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday.
The workout was viewed by general manager Kevin Pritchard, assistant general manager Tom Penn and coach Nate McMillan.
Pritchard confirmed the workout, but declined to comment on how Livingston looked, or where the Blazers were in the process. Livingston is still recovering from a devastating injury to his left knee that caused him to miss all of last season. In February of 2007, while attempting a fast-break layin against Charlotte, Livingston tore his anterior cruciate ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and lateral meniscus. He also dislocated his patella. He was averaging 9.5 points and 5.2 assists at the time of his injury.
The fourth overall pick of the 2004 NBA Draft, Livingston during his rookie season missed 39 games after dislocating his right knee. The Clippers waived Livingston in July after signing Baron Davis and drafting Eric Gordon.
It is believed the Blazers next want to view Livingston's medical records and have a doctor examine his surgically repaired knee. The Blazers have one roster spot open as it prepares to open training camp on Sept. 30. Three free agents _ forward Luke Jackson, center Steven Hill and guard Jamaal Tatum _ have been invited to camp to compete for the final spot. Livingston, a tall point guard at 6-foot-7, will likely be viewed as a piece that can help the team in years to come, but not immediately.
Yahoo! Sports reported that Livingston has also worked out for Minnesota and has plans to meet with Miami next week.
Livingston's agent, Henry Thomas, did not return a message.
